Three SIBO Friendly Summer Cocktails

With long days, warm nights, weekend getaways, and epic adventures, summer is the season where routines take a holiday and we let relaxation rule. Enjoy three summer cocktail recipes from The Good LFE Cookbook. These recipes follow the Low Fermentation Eating diet and are designed to be SIBO and IBS friendly while promoting gut health.

Blood Orange & Rosemary Vodka Cocktail

This looks and sounds like a complicated cocktail, but it's not. Even if you're new to mixology you'll find this cocktail easy to make. The sweet tartness of the blood orange juice infused with fragrant rosemary is a palate pleaser.

Servings: 8 cocktails | Lactose Free, Vegan, Gluten Free

  • 1 1/2 cup blood orange juice
  • 4 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 1 cup vodka
  • Ice, for serving
  • Lime wedges, for serving

  • In a small saucepan, heat the blood orange juice and rosemary over low heat for 10 minutes. Allow the rosemary to infuse another 20 minutes. Remove the rosemary and discard. Allow juice to cool.
  • Combine rosemary-infused blood orange with the vodka. Pour over ice and serve with a lime wedge.

Simple Margarita

What you won't find in this recipe is Triple Sec - because it's loaded with sugar. The juice from a sweet, tangy orange and a bit of sugar essentially eliminates the need for the liqueur. This refreshing cocktail can be paired with Mexican flavors, or just about anything else.

Servings: 1 cocktail | Lactose Free, Vegan, Gluten Free

  • Juice from 1 lime
  • Juice from 1 orange
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 2 ounces tequila
  • 1 tablespoon caster sugar
  • Lime slices, for serving

  • Shake all ingredients in an ice shaker. Serve on the rocks with a slice of lime.

Boozy Blackberry Granita

A tart and refreshing summertime cocktail.

Servings: 8 cocktails | Lactose Free, Vegan, Gluten Free

  • 1 pint blackberries
  • Juice of 4 lemons
  • Zest of 2 lemons
  • 3 tablespoons caster sugar + more to taste
  • 3 1/2 cups water
  • 8-16 ounces vodka
  • Lemon slices dipped in sugar
  • Blackberries

  • Combine all ingredients except for vodka in a food processor, process until smooth. Pour ingredients into a 9x13" baking dish. Place in the freezer for 3 hours. Every 30 minutes, use a fork to break up and scrape clumps of ice that begin to form.
  • Scoop granita into glass and pour 1-2 ounces of vodka over the top and stir. Garnish with a sugared lemon slice and a blackberry.
